The European Union has donated EUR 6,5 million for the construction of the second phase of the Trans-Balkan corridor for the transfer of electric energy. Sixty kilometers of transmission lines will be constructed from Kragujevac to Kraljevo. This project will completely change the electric energy conditions not only in Serbia, but also wider, since the project is a part of the Trans-Balkan corridor. The agreement was signed in March of this year, while the finishing of the construction is expected at the beginning of 2022.
This project will secure a safe and stable supply of electrical energy in Serbia and will secure a good basis for mediation in the electrical energy trade between Eastern and Western Europe.
Arne Gos, the director of the German Development Bank (KFW) in Serbia, which is tracking the investment by giving EUR 15 million in credit and by donating EUR 6,5 million, stated today that this investment contributes to a most reliable electrical energy transfer system.
In the future, when the remaining four sections connected to this construction project are completed, the entire system will secure a stable supply for the consumers in Western and Central Serbia, and will be a vital connection between the state and the cross-border capacities
he stated.
He added that it will contribute to the integration of Serbia`s electrical energy system into the European network. He reminded that, in the name of the German government, they have financed the projects in the amount of EUR 2 billion in the last 20 years, out of which 60% was given to the energy sector, and added that he hopes that the cooperation will continue.
